Scholarship Overview

The Government of Flanders Master Mind Scholarships are highly sought-after awards for international students wishing to undertake a masters program in Flanders or Brussels, Belgium. The program is designed to attract outstanding talent to Flemish higher education institutions, with approximately 30 scholarships awarded annually.

Can Pakistani Students Apply?

Yes, Pakistani students are eligible to apply. The program explicitly states that all nationalities from across the world are welcome to apply, provided they meet the academic and linguistic requirements of their chosen host institution.

Funding and Benefits

This is a partially funded scholarship opportunity that significantly offsets the cost of studying in Belgium. Successful candidates receive:

  • A grant of €8,200 per academic year.
  • A tuition fee waiver (recipients only pay an administrative enrollment fee).
  • Coverage for living expenses, accommodation, and insurance through the grant.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality: Open to all international students, including those from Pakistan.
  • Academic Record: A high standard of academic performance, generally indicated by a GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 or equivalent.
  • Enrollment: You must not currently be enrolled in a Flemish higher education institution, unless you are completing a specific preparatory program for an upcoming masters.
  • Degree Origin: Your previous degree must have been obtained from an institution outside of Flanders.
  • Admission: You must be accepted into a participating master’s program at a host institution in Flanders or Brussels.

Language Requirements

Proficiency in English is mandatory. For general master’s programs, candidates require:

  • IELTS: Minimum overall band score of 7.0.
  • TOEFL: Minimum total score of 94.
  • C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

For programs at a School of Arts, the requirements are adjusted to an IELTS score of 6.5, a TOEFL score of 90, or a B2 level of proficiency.

Required Documents

Applicants should prepare the following documentation:

  • Passport photo and a copy of your international passport or national ID.
  • Official transcript of records (certified translation required if not in English, Dutch, French, or German).
  • Copy of acquired diploma(s).
  • English language test results or an official letter of exemption.
  • A letter of motivation written in English.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors or a recent employer.
  • Three reasons for motivation provided by the host institution as part of the application.

Application Timeline

Deadlines are set by the individual host institutions and typically fall between January and April. It is vital to consult the internal application schedule of your chosen university to ensure you do not miss the window for nomination.

Selection Process

Candidates cannot apply directly for the scholarship. The selection process involves:

  1. Submission of an admission application to the chosen Flemish host institution.
  2. Academic evaluation and acceptance by the host institution.
  3. Nomination of the candidate by the host institution via the Mobility-Online tool.
  4. Final selection based on academic potential and merit.

How to Apply

The application process is indirect. You must first secure admission at a participating Flemish university. Once accepted, the university handles the nomination process for the scholarship via the Mobility-Online tool.

Pakistan-Specific Application Advice

Students from Pakistan should ensure all academic transcripts and diplomas are translated into English by a certified authority if the originals are in Urdu. Because the process is institution-led, we strongly recommend reaching out to the international office of your target university in Flanders early to express your interest in the Master Mind scholarship.

Important Terms and Limitations

  • Distance learning, bridging programs, and preparatory programs (unless specifically exempted) are not eligible.
  • Recipients must obtain at least half of their total credits at the Flemish host institution.
  • All details regarding the scholarship, including specific deadlines, can be found on the official Master Mind website.
