The NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded fellowship program offered by the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS). This fellowship provides a safe and supportive environment in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for scholars, artists, writers, and journalists who are unable to continue their work in their home countries due to war, conflict, or threats to their freedom. The fellowship lasts for 5 months, either from September to January or February to June, 2026. It covers return airfare, accommodation, a stipend, a private office space, and access to library and other facilities. Applicants from all countries are welcome. Research applicants need at least three years of post-doctoral experience, while artistic or journalistic applicants may present equivalent professional work in lieu of academic research. The proposed project must be within the humanities or social sciences, and applicants must have a good command of English and be physically available 4 days a week at NIAS.
